Helping Nonprofits Fight the Pandemic in Global Communities

By: 3BL Media

SOURCE: FedEx Corporation

DESCRIPTION:

For decades, FedEx has supported a number of local and global nonprofit organizations that specialize in helping underserved communities. Especially in times of disaster, when communities are recovering from hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes, volcanos, tsunamis and now, a global pandemic, FedEx – with more than 650 aircraft and 180,000 vehicles – comes alongside these agencies to help them reach these communities.

To help fight the pandemic in our headquarters city of Memphis, across the U.S., and in nearly 30 developing nations around the world, FedEx has provided more than $4 million in grants to help nonprofits reach the underserved with COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition to transporting the vaccines, we are providing healthcare professionals with the personal protective equipment (PPE), syringes, and other medical supplies they need to administer the COVID vaccine. FedEx is also helping underserved communities by providing cash and transportation support to nonprofit organizations to get people vaccinated.

In Memphis, FedEx is working with Christ Community Health Services, a well-established organization serving the medically underserved for 25 years. With our support, they have given over 50,000 COVID tests and are currently providing vaccination services across the city.

As the only nonprofit in the U.S. licensed to distribute pharmaceuticals in all 50 states, Direct Relief serves a network of more than 2,500 local health clinics across the country. FedEx has been a longstanding supporter of Direct Relief, working year-round with them for more than a decade as they provide these clinics medicines and other supplies to care for the underserved. FedEx is proud to have provided additional support to Direct Relief to help the clinics with COVID vaccination efforts.

To help reach the underserved in developing countries, FedEx is teaming up with International Medical Corps who provides year-round medical assistance in nearly 30 countries. Their network is actively engaged in helping fight the pandemic and FedEx is providing additional cash and transportation support to help them accomplish their mission. Throughout the pandemic, International Medical Corps has provided relief to hospitals, including portable facilities transported by FedEx, to provide surge capacity to accommodate patient overflow.

As we see COVID-19 infection surges around the world, we continue to work with these and other amazing nonprofits to help them save lives. Most recently, FedEx donated two Boeing 777F charter flights to move oxygen concentrators, converters, medical supplies and PPE for Direct Relief. The first charter went from Newark, NJ to Mumbai, India, the second from Newark to New Delhi. The supplies in the charter flights were delivered to healthcare facilities in Mumbai and New Delhi.
