WSP Celebrates World Ocean Day

By: 3BL Media

SOURCE: WSP

DESCRIPTION:

World Ocean Day is a reminder of the critical role that oceans play in the global environment and in our everyday lives. Oceans are connected to all life on Earth. They produce more than 50% of the planet's oxygen and absorb 30% of carbon emissions. Oceans are critical for people's health and livelihoods. They provide the main source of protein for over one billion people. By 2030, 40 million people will be employed in ocean-based industries.

But we are taking more from the ocean than can be replenished. 90% of big fish populations are depleted, and 50% of coral reefs have been destroyed. We must better protect and preserve the biodiversity of the ocean while maintaining the natural capital of its resources. At WSP, we pair technology with nature-based solutions to help restore marine ecosystems and enhance aquatic biodiversity.
