Franklin Templeton Launches Its Newest Business Resource Group, Asian and Pacific Islander

By: 3BL Media

SOURCE: Franklin Templeton

DESCRIPTION:

Franklin Templeton launched its newest business resource group (BRG), the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) BRG in May, coinciding with Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The month commemorates the culture, traditions and history of Asian American and Pacific Islander people in the United States.

“It has been a challenging year for the Asian American Pacific Islander community in the United States,” said Tiffany Hong, Chief Administrative Officer, Office of the President and CEO, and an API BRG Executive Champion. “During this month, we hope members of our Franklin Templeton community will take at least one action to demonstrate their support.”

For its kickoff event, the API BRG invited an external guest speaker who is an, Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan to talk about history of Asian migrations to the United States and the growth and evolution of the Asian American community over time. By highlighting the resilient and intersectional responses of different Asian American communities to discrimination in the past, the presentation provided context and strategies for Asian Americans and their allies to chart a path forward through the challenges they face today. He recommended short-term interpersonal solutions, such as education, supporting API organizations, taking bystander intervention training, talking about racism and reporting anti-Asian incidents, plus longer-term structural solutions such as advocating for policies that uplift API communities and supporting the inclusion of API history in school curriculum.

Throughout the month, employees were encouraged to show support by checking in on a colleague of API descent, reading a book about the history and experience of Asians in any country, watching the five-part documentary Asian Americans by PBS, or sharing positive stories about Asian leaders, upstanding citizens or people who are making a difference in the community.
