SpartanNash Foundation Launches In-Store Fundraising for Food Pantries in Nine States

Donations made at checkout through Nov. 7 will support food-insecure families during the holidays

Food solutions company SpartanNash (Nasdaq: SPTN) has launched an in-store fundraiser running through Nov. 7 to help families struggling with food insecurity. The program makes it easy for grocery shoppers to make a quick donation at the checkout register and for each local store team to select the food pantry in their community most in need of support. The SpartanNash Foundation will also make monetary donations to support infrastructure improvements and other food pantry needs.

“Food pantries need more than food donations at this time of year,” said Adrienne Chance, SpartanNash vice president, communications and executive director of the SpartanNash Foundation. “Our program is designed to provide critical financial support not just for meals but also for household goods and supplies, infrastructure improvements and other community needs.”

Store guests are invited to join the fight against hunger by donating $1, $5, $10 or rounding up to the nearest dollar at the register during checkout at their local SpartanNash-owned retail store. All 146 SpartanNash stores in nine states are participating, primarily under the banners Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets, VG’s Grocery, Dan’s Supermarket, D&W Fresh Market, Forest Hills Foods and Supermercado Nuestra Familia and online through Fast Lane.

“Funds donated by shoppers in 2020 helped us repair our walk-in coolers and freezers to continue serving families in our neighborhood with fresh produce, dairy items and frozen goods,” said Jenelle Jonkman, director, Buist Community Assistance Center, Michigan. “It means a lot to us that the donations come directly from our community and that we are able to put the funds toward what will help our families the most.”

This fundraiser is part of SpartanNash’s ongoing commitment to supporting community food needs, and follows a recent partnership with the United Dairy Industry of Michigan (UDIM) for a companywide milk drive fundraiser.
