FHLB Dallas and Origin Bank Partner on $4K Grant to Workforce Nonprofit

Northeast Louisiana Nonprofit, NOVA, Receives Partnership Grant Program Award

Origin Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) have partnered to award $4,000 in Partnership Grant Program (PGP) funds to New Opportunities Vision Achievement Workforce Institute of Northeast Louisiana (NOVA), which trains workers and connects them with employers.

The Monroe, Louisiana-based nonprofit acts as a job intermediary, connecting individuals of low- to moderate-income levels with employers who offer a livable wage, benefits and a career path. It also provides training and educational services, including career readiness courses.

NOVA has helped more than 1,100 individuals find living wage or transitional employment, said NOVA Executive Director Paul West.

“The PGP funding will help us offset some of our administrative and operational expenses and may be used for some special events such as job readiness training, graduations from our programs and receptions for prospective employers to meet our participants,” he said. “We are thankful for the support from Origin Bank and FHLB Dallas.”

Sheila Grayson, vice president, corporate CRA and community development officer at Origin Bank, said the bank is pleased to support NOVA in its mission.

“NOVA’s mission benefits individuals, businesses and the community by making a sizable and positive economic impact on the parishes it serves, and we are honored to assist them,” she said.

For 2021, FHLB Dallas awarded $400,000 in PGP grants, and its members provided an additional $200,250 for an impact of more than $600,000 in its five-state District of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas.

“The PGP allows our members, such as Origin Bank, to provide administrative, operational and capacity building funding, something that other grants often exclude,” said Greg Hettrick, first vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. “We are pleased to join with Origin Bank on this award to NOVA.”
