athenahealth Announces Clinical Advisory Board

Board includes 30 customer members to provide ongoing ideas on how to improve and enhance athenahealth’s solutions

athenahealth, Inc., a leading provider of network-enabled software and services for medical groups and health systems nationwide, today announced that it created and launched a Clinical Advisory Board to serve as an additional forum for customer clinicians to provide feedback and validate ideas to improve workflows for providers, staff, and patients.

The board, led by athenahealth’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nele Jessel, focuses on bringing the clinical voice to product design and development. It is composed of 30 inaugural members, including providers and clinical IT administrators. As part of the board, members collaborate with athenahealth’s product team to provide guidance on the long-term direction of the company’s product roadmap and clinical features in active development, as well as athenahealth’s approach to upcoming releases.

To date, the Clinical Advisory Board has begun to tackle challenges associated with provider burnout, including better curation of patient data in charts and reducing documentation time.

“Feedback is crucial to athenahealth as we work to improve and enhance the customer experience and build new capabilities into our platform, and the Clinical Advisory Board provides another incredibly effective channel for us to hear from the people who use our products every day,” said Dr. Jessel. “I look forward to working with the board on our efforts to transform and improve the delivery of healthcare and better serve our customers and their patients where they need us most, at the moment of care.”

“The members of the Clinical Advisory Board are very invested in influencing the decisions and path of athenahealth’s development, and prioritizing those biggest pain points that are there right now in the workflow,” said Dr. Katherine Gregory, an OB-GYN with San Francisco Gynecology, Inc. “I also love collaborating with both clinicians and administrators. It takes all of us to help a patient have a simple experience in making an appointment all the way through the visit and beyond, and we need to put our heads together to make that process as smooth and seamless as possible.”

Members of the athenahealth Clinical Advisory Board are appointed for a period of one or two years with an option to extend for an additional year. The board meets virtually every two months and in-person once a year. The board recently met at athenahealth’s Thrive Summit in Austin, Texas, where more than 2,000 customers, partners, exhibitors, and athenahealth colleagues gathered to celebrate customers, exchange ideas and best practices, and share new perspectives on solving some of the biggest challenges in healthcare.
