Global Investment Fund TheVentureCity Hires Marie Berry as First Ever Chief Marketing Officer

Marie Berry will be the Miami-based fund’s first ever CMO, and will elevate the fund's branding and boost early startup marketing efforts.

Global operator-led investment fund TheVentureCity is proud to announce that serial entrepreneur and investor Marie Berry is joining the team as its first ever Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Operating Partner.

Marie Berry is a truly global entrepreneur with two exits under her belt, angel investor and international marketing veteran. As TheVentureCity enters its fifth year, Marie will elevate TheVentureCity’s uniquely global brand and its vision to fuel diverse and borderless entrepreneurship. For the startups coming to TheVentureCity for the guidance of its seasoned operators, Marie will bring her experience as a founder and as former executive for some of the world’s biggest brands.

Communication is key for the early-stage, high-potential startups as they sell their brand to employees, consumers and VCs. However, this is often challenging for young founding teams. As CMO, Marie will complement TheVentureCity’s strong product-led focus for startups with a solid strategy for communicating and showcasing their brand to the world.

“I’m a founder at heart, and love that TheVentureCity is built and run by operators who now happen to be investors,” said Marie. “I don’t see this as a career shift to venture capital, but rather as a continuation of building businesses.”

Born in Bolivia and raised in Europe, Marie has lived in London, Madrid and Paris; she began her marketing journey working for adidas, before moving to China, where she led multiple WPP marketing agencies for Ford and Chanel across 14 markets in Asia. There, she understood that her calling was to build companies, processes, and teams from scratch. She moved to the United States in 2015, launching two startups in New York and Miami. Marie’s most recent company Kara was an enterprise SaaS platform used by global high-growth companies like TikTok for scaling marketing materials and controlling brand quality.

“Having run marketing for big brands and startups across continents, I understand that there's no one size fits all in marketing,” said Marie. “The cultural adaptability that I’ve developed over the years is something I hope to bring to TheVentureCity’s startups as we work together to find their individual paths.”

TheVentureCity’s vision that today’s startup ecosystem is inherently global resonates deeply with Marie’s own approach. “I’ve had to help founders think bigger from the beginning - not only crafting plans for a specific market but also preparing for international expansion from day one,” Marie said.

“When entrepreneurs become investors, they develop their own unique appeal to founders, who are increasingly seeking that type of experienced guidance at an early stage,” said Founder and CEO of TheVentureCity Laura González-Estéfani. “We’re thrilled to have another successful woman entrepreneur join our team and bring that profound value to the future generation of founders.”

Marie received a Triple Master's Degree in International Business from ESCP Europe, and is a member of First Round Capital Fast Track, On Deck Angel Fellowship, and Dreamers and Doers.
