Cyber Leaders from Israel, Germany, Canada, UK, Ukraine, and US Discuss Collaboration at 13th Billington CyberSecurity Summit

Ukrainians Share Insights into Russian Cyber Offensives

Cyber alignment among US allies is a big focus of the 13th Annual Billington CyberSecurity Summit, taking place September 7-9 in Washington, DC at the Washington Convention Center. Cyber leaders from Israel, Germany, Canada, the UK, and the US will discuss deterring malign actors through an all-allied united front. In addition, sessions with Ukraine officials round out the Summit’s international cyber focus.

“Protecting our nation and our allies means having a unified global cyber response. That’s why the summit has a larger focus this year on how we are collaborating with our international partners to protect ourselves from cyber criminals and espionage threats,” explained Thomas K. Billington, CEO, Billington CyberSecurity, a leading cyber education company for executives founded in 2010. “We are also hearing from senior Ukrainian officials who will travel to our event to discuss their efforts and successes thwarting Russian digital assaults.”

Technical partnerships between Five Eyes and the US and its allies have never been stronger. On September 7, on a panel moderated by Ryan Gillis, VP, Cybersecurity Strategy, Global Policy, Palo Alto Networks, the following leaders will participate:

  • Gaby Portnoy, Director General, Israel National Cyber Directorate
  • Rob Silvers, Under Secretary for Strategy, Policy, and Plans, DHS
  • Sami Khoury, Head, Canadian Centre for Cyber Security
  • Arne Schönbohm, President, Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security

They will discuss ways that Western countries are working together to deter cyber enemies, keep the Internet open, and build capacity and intelligence sharing efforts to make adversaries work harder to target collective defenses.

The summit also includes a variety of other internationally themed sessions. Cyber leaders from Ukraine—including Serhii Demediuk, Deputy Secretary, National Security & Defense Council, and Georgii Dubynskyi, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Digital Transformation—will speak about what they have learned from the Russian invasion and how to use this information to better prepare the West to defend against potential new Russian attacks. In addition, top cyber commanders from the US and UK will outline their strategic cyber partnership and important technical challenges they face.

Another highlight is a Fireside Chat with Lindy Cameron, CEO, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, which is increasingly viewed as a model for how public and private entities can work together to understand and defend against cyber threats.

Designed to address the nation’s pressing cyber needs, the three-day event returns in-person after two years going virtual and explores “Transforming Cybersecurity Through a Unified Approach.” CIA Director William Burns; LG Berrier, Director, DIA CISA; Director Jen Easterly; The Honorable Chris Inglis, National Cyber Director, EOP; George Barnes, Deputy Director, NSA and John Sherman, CIO, DOD are also among the more than 150 speakers that will participate in panel discussions, breakout sessions, fireside chats, and awards. Topics will include election security; securing infrastructure, federal, state, and private sector engagement; development of a National Cyber Incident Response Plan; game changing disruptive technologies; and growing a cyber workforce.
