Qbtech Presents at Congressional Briefing on Youth Mental Health

Objective ADHD diagnostic participated in solutions-focused panel to improve the youth mental health crisis.

Today, industry leaders convened at a congressional briefing, focused on youth mental health titled, Improving Outcomes in Youth Mental Health: What's Working and What Can Be Done."

This briefing coalesced public and private sector experts, including senior executives from Qbtech, a leading provider of FDA-cleared objective ADHD testing, healthcare providers from the ADHD Expert Consortium, and more to discuss ways in which policymakers can implement solutions that improve and expand access to mental health resources, such as screenings and other evidence-based practices. McCall Letterle, Head of Commercial Operations, North America, at Qbtech, represented the company on the panel to discuss how ADHD diagnosis and treatment monitoring can be prioritized when combating this ongoing epidemic. Members of the ADHD Expert Consortium also were in attendance to share their ADHD diagnostic and treatment experiences and highlight the need for an improved diagnostic process.

“I’m encouraged to see Congress looking to promote data-driven solutions to address youth mental health in this country, and I’m grateful to be here to shed light on how ADHD impacts children and families,” says Letterle. “ADHD may be just one condition, but it often coexists with other mental and behavioral health disorders, like anxiety and depression. With better diagnostic tools and criteria, such as objective testing, clinicians can more confidently identify and treat ADHD, and monitor outcomes to ensure patients are on the right path and equipping providers with the tools to positively impact their patients as well as their communities. ”

The company and Consortium members also encourage the public to sign the ADHD Expert Consortium Consensus Statement, which advocates for improved diagnostic standards for ADHD. Signatures can be added here.

In addition to Letterle, panelists included:

  • Christina Greene, Maryland Coalition of Families
  • Debra Johnson, Administration for Children and Families, HHS
  • Michael Linskey, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
  • Michelle Turner, Hazel Health
  • Natalie Williams, American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)

Representative Lisa Blunt-Rochester (DE-At-Large), Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) and Representative Judy Chu (CA-28) also attended as keynote speakers.

“Mental health is not only an important issue but a recognized public health emergency, especially after the pandemic. I am encouraged by this briefing because we need to not only prioritize, but take action now to address youth mental health,” says Dr. Nerissa Bauer, MPH, FAAP, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician and member of the ADHD Expert Consortium. “When we do so, we can improve identification and access to evidence-based treatments in a timely manner. It’s all hands on deck to help face the challenges and barriers our patients face now.”
