Triton Digital Releases the October 2023 U.S. Podcast Ranker

Triton Digital®, the global technology and services provider to the digital audio, podcast, and broadcast radio industries, announced today the release of its October 2023 reporting period (October 2, 2023 – October 29, 2023), U.S. Podcast Ranker, as measured by Triton’s Podcast Metrics measurement service.

Yet again, SiriusXM Podcast Network remained in the #1 spot on the Top Sales Networks Report for the month of October, with 50.6M Average Weekly Downloads and 14.3M Average Weekly Users. Wondery came in again at #2 with 31.7M Average Weekly Downloads and 8.1M Average Weekly Users, followed by Audacy Podcast Network at #3 with 21.7M Average Weekly Downloads and 6.5M Average Weekly Users.

This month we added two new sales networks to our Top Sales Network Report, PRX and Relevant Radio.

For this reporting period, the top three podcasts based on downloads included Dateline NBC (NBCUniversal News Group) again at #1, Crime Junkie (audiochuck) again at #2, and Morbid (Wondery) again at #3.

For listeners, the top three podcasts included Crime Junkie (audiochuck) again at #1, Dateline NBC (NBCUniversal News Group) again at #2, and Morbid (Wondery) again at #3.

Debuts for downloads in the month of October include Snap Judgement (PRX), Normal Gossip (PRX/Radiotopia), and Buried Bones (Wondery). For listeners, debuts this month included Search Engine (Audacy Podcast Network) and Girls Next Level (Audioboom). For both downloads and listeners there were three debuts including TED Talks Daily (PRX), The Moth (PRX), and Snap Judgement Presents: Spooked (PRX).

NPR is temporarily excluded from the rankers this month due to a planned data collection migration. They will return to the rankers once the migration is complete.

For the month of October podcast downloads are down 4.6% compared to September. This can partially be attributed to the release of Apple iOS 17 and that Apple podcast episodes that are older than seven days will no longer be considered “new” and automatically downloaded. You can read more about Apple automatic download behavior changes here.

The Top Sales Network Reports are ranked by Average Weekly Downloads and Average Weekly Users in accordance with v2.1 of the IAB Podcast Technical Measurement Guidelines. Participating Sales Networks include content owners/creators and sales representation organizations. Certified by the IAB Tech Lab, Triton’s Podcast Metrics eliminates inconsistent measurement practices and self-reported data, providing content creators, marketers, media buyers, and the audio industry at large with validated and transparent podcast audience data.

Any sales network or publisher with an audience in the United States is eligible to participate in the U.S. Podcast Report. To learn more, contact: solutions@tritondigital.com.
