Chickasaw Nation Launches Online Tutoring Program with Varsity Tutors for Students in Need of Academic Support Outside the Classroom

High-Impact K-12 Tutoring Program to Provide Individual Learning Support for Students in Need of Supplemental Instruction

The Chickasaw Nation today announced a new partnership with Varsity Tutors for Schools, the leading provider of live online tutoring, to provide personalized instruction to K-12 students in need of additional academic support. The partnership will provide Chickasaw students enrolled in a public, charter, or accredited private school with access to classroom resources and instruction designed to assist learning in a content-specific, one-on-one, virtual environment.

Participants approved to participate in the Student Tutoring Assistance Program receive a maximum of 20 credit hours per school year of virtual tutoring services in core academic areas such as language arts, math, science, and history. Qualifying students can be enrolled in traditional education courses, Advanced Placement (AP) courses or concurrent enrollment courses. Chickasaw K-12 students that are homeschooled are also eligible and will be considered based on a review of the current curriculum.

Upon acceptance, Varsity Tutors assigns each student’s family an academic advisor who connects students with their tutors. Students will then receive a five-credit hour trial run to ensure services with Varsity Tutors will meet their needs. Remaining credits will be distributed based on participant feedback from tutoring assistance staff.

“This program is for Chickasaw students who demonstrate a need for additional academic support outside of traditional classroom instruction time,” said Chickasaw Nation Director of Student Development Angela Wrublewski. “We’ve successfully piloted the program with Varsity Tutors and have been really happy with student adoption and engagement. Nearly all of the students enrolled in the pilot requested additional credit hours - which we were happy to approve.”

“Chickasaw Nation is providing a remarkable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of core subjects, ignite their passion for learning, and achieve meaningful academic gains," said Anthony Salcito, Chief Institution Business Officer at Nerdy, the parent company of Varsity Tutors. "By connecting each student with an accredited instructor, the program delivers personalized, interactive lessons that build upon in-person classroom instruction, ensuring that every learner can reach their full potential."

To enroll in the Student Tutoring Assistance Program, students will need to complete an application and provide a Chickasaw citizenship card, student report card or progress report, proof of Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504, and/or a completed Student Tutoring Assistance Referral from a teacher or school official.
