Harris County, Texas, Implements Digital Disbursements for Jurors with Tyler Technologies’ Solution

Tyler Disbursements enhances juror experience with quicker payment options

Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced that Harris County in Texas has successfully gone live with Tyler Disbursements. Harris County can now pay jurors for jury service through multiple payment options, eliminating the use of paper checks.

“We are excited to bring digital disbursements to Harris County with Tyler’s solution,” said Harris County Treasurer Dr. Carla Wyatt. “Having jurors select the type of payment option that works best for them enhances their overall jury experience, which is important to us.”

Harris County District Clerk Marilyn Burgess added, “This new payment method makes payments to jurors more efficient, easier, and faster. Not only does it bring benefits for jurors, but eliminating the use of paper checks also saves the taxpayers of Harris County a significant amount of money over time.”

Tyler Disbursements software provides a hassle-free way to pay jurors accurately and on time. With Tyler’s solution, Harris County can offer multiple payment options for jurors, including via a pre-paid debit card, standard or instant transfer to a bank account, PayPal transfer, and more. Jurors are paid more quickly as they no longer have to wait on paper checks to come through the United States Postal Service.

With this payment approach, Harris County will continue to gain efficiencies, as it will spend less time reconciliating lost, stolen, and uncashed checks, and the county will spend less money issuing payments digitally than via check. Check fraud risk will also be eliminated. More importantly, any unclaimed funds will be returned to the county after 90 days, per Texas statutes.

“We are thrilled that Harris County has adopted digital disbursements in its courts,” said Elizabeth Proudfit, president of Tyler’s Digital Solutions Division. “We know there are so many benefits for jurors, the court’s staff, and residents with this payment approach, and we’re looking forward to continuing to bring those enhancements to Harris County.”

Harris County is the third most populous county in the U.S., with a population of more than 4.7 million. Its county seat is Houston, the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest city in the U.S.
