BVSJ Hosts Inaugural Empowerment Summit to Revolutionize Veteran Support

Summit Brings Together Top Leaders to Empower the Next Generation of Veterans with Financial Literacy, Tech Opportunities, and Mental Wellness Support

In a bold move to redefine veteran support for the 21st century, Black Veterans for Social Justice (BVSJ) is set to host its groundbreaking Veterans Everyday Empowerment Summit on November 15, 2024, in New York City. This innovative event marks a shift in addressing the evolving needs of today's veterans, focusing on sustainable, everyday solutions that resonate with the experiences of younger service members.

Set against the backdrop of Veterans Day, the summit will transform 541 West 25th Street into a hub of opportunity, featuring an impressive lineup of speakers, including:

  • Troy Millings, co-host of the chart-topping "Earn Your Leisure" podcast
  • Robert Hill Sr., Author and Navy Veteran
  • Tiara Chesmer Williams, VP and Head of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity at Moët Hennessy
  • iAsia Brown, Senior Producer at Xbox Gaming Studios and Air Force-Marine veteran
  • Naila McKenzie, VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at AMC Networks

"The Veterans Everyday campaign is our response to a critical gap in veteran support," said Wendy McClinton, CEO of BVSJ and U.S. Army veteran. "In addition to our traditional services, we recognize the unique challenges that emerge from technological advancements, industry trends and economic shifts. To address these, we are expanding our services and creating a continuous ecosystem of empowerment. This is just the beginning of our plan to ensure veterans thrive every day."

The event's three-pillar approach tackles the most pressing challenges facing modern veterans:

  1. Building Long-Term Financial Stability
  2. Navigating Today's Digital Landscape
  3. Prioritizing Mental Wellness

Attendees will benefit from:

  • Expert-led panels on financial literacy and opportunities in the tech industry
  • Exclusive networking sessions with industry leaders and potential employers
  • Conversations on personal development and mental health
  • Direct access to talent acquisition teams from major corporations

Navy Federal Credit Union, the nation’s largest credit union, will support a fireside chat that covers the organization’s unwavering support for servicemembers and their families through every phase of life – from financial services to careers after service.

“We’re built to serve the military community,” said Brian Parker, VP, Member Experience Innovation at Navy Federal and Army Veteran. “In doing so, we meet our members where they are on their financial journey and go beyond banking to show up for those who serve our country.”

Naila McKenzie, VP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at AMC Networks, expressed her support, stating, “Veterans represent a pipeline of diverse and talented individuals, and we are thrilled to support the Veterans Everyday Summit and BVSJ in their mission to create pathways to success for veterans of all backgrounds.”

By focusing on the needs of younger veterans—with the average age of recently discharged service members between 25-30—BVSJ is addressing a critical demographic often overlooked by traditional veteran support programs.
