Axonic Capital Enhances Commercial Real Estate Investment Platform With Appointment of James Jordan as a Partner

Axonic Capital (“Axonic”), a real estate focused investment manager with $6 billion in assets under management, has hired James “JJ” Jordan as a Partner. Mr. Jordan, who has nearly 20 years of industry experience, previously served as a Principal and Portfolio Manager focused on North American Commercial Real Estate and Structured Credit at Taconic Capital, where he spent more than a decade and established and drove the growth of their CRE platform.

“We see an extraordinary opportunity in the CRE market as the asset class undergoes a period of transformation and dislocation,” said Clayton DeGiacinto, Axonic Managing Partner and Co-Chief Investment Officer. “JJ joining Axonic builds upon our strong existing capabilities in the space and reflects both our confidence in the sector's potential and our commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes for our investors while positioning ourselves for growth,” added Matthew Weinstein, Axonic Partner and Co-Chief Investment Officer. “JJ’s exceptional expertise, deep relationships, and leadership will be invaluable to Axonic and our clients as we navigate this pivotal moment in the market."

Mr. Jordan will be joined at a later date by other senior Taconic real estate team members. They will be joining a well-established commercial real estate franchise at Axonic that is active across commercial lending, agency and non-agency CMBS and opportunistic equity. Mr. Jordan and team will work closely with Jonathan Salter and Erik Nygaard, who currently lead the liquid and illiquid commercial real estate businesses at Axonic. Combined, the Axonic and Taconic teams have invested over $17 billion in commercial real estate transactions, including approximately $1 billion across 24 deals in partnership together.

“I am thrilled to join Axonic, a leader in the real estate space and a firm poised for growth. I have great long standing personal relationships with a number of senior team members and have worked on many transactions with them over the years,” said Jordan. “Axonic’s strong existing capabilities in CRE, as well as related areas such as structured credit, position the firm incredibly well to capitalize on the current generational opportunity in CRE driven by the significant dislocation in the space.”

Mr. Jordan will maintain an advisory role at Taconic with respect to their current commercial real estate investments, and Taconic principals will make an investment and retain an interest in Axonic’s opportunistic CRE business. Prior to Taconic, Mr. Jordan worked in real estate and credit investing roles at Deutsche Asset Management and BlackRock Financial Management. Mr. Jordan will report to Co-Chief Investment Officers Clayton DeGiacinto and Matthew Weinstein.
