Pennsylvania American Water Proudly Recognizes Partnership with Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh

American Water Charitable Foundation provides a combined total $260,000 to support workforce development initiatives for the National Urban League and Affiliate Movement

The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., and Pennsylvania American Water, announced today that the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh has received a $20,000 commitment as part of a larger Foundation Corporate Strategic grant. Funding will enhance workforce development initiatives that help close the equality gap for African Americans and other historically underserved groups throughout Western Pennsylvania.

This support strengthens our efforts to remove barriers and empower African Americans to thrive socially, politically and economically. Investing in the Black community builds a Pittsburgh region where everyone can succeed," said Carlos T. Carter, president & CEO of the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh.

The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh’s workforce development programs include the Urban Seniors Jobs Program, the Urban Tech Jobs Program and TradesFuture. They have several Opportunity Broker Programs with partners such as the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh, New Century Careers, A Phillip Randolph – Breaking the Chains of Poverty, Garfield Jubilee Workforce Development Taskforce, Pittsburgh Technology Council – Apprenti program and Pittsburgh Gateways.

“Pennsylvania American Water is proud to collaborate with the American Water Charitable Foundation to support the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh,” said Pennsylvania American Water Director of Government and External Affairs Gary Lobaugh. “We greatly appreciate the important work this organization does to reduce barriers and help individuals throughout our community achieve economic empowerment. It’s an honor to collaborate with them in those efforts.”

The Corporate Strategic grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation 2024 Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. Corporate Strategic grants support high-impact programs that align with American Water’s values of being a solutions provider, where we seek to influence positive change and help keep communities flowing, improving and thriving.
