An enthusiastic team of approximately 100 employees from Diversified Maintenance partnered with Cheeriodicals to assemble and deliver care packages to hospitalized children and Veterans in Birmingham, AL. Their collective goal was to engage in meaningful, team-based work that would bring comfort and support to patients facing healthcare challenges within the Birmingham community.
The Diversified Maintenance team generously devoted their time to assemble 200 Cheeriodicals care packages for pediatric patients at Children’s of Alabama and individuals undergoing care at the Birmingham VA Health Care System. Not stopping at just packing, the team went the extra mile by crafting personalized encouragement note cards for every recipient of the care packages. The children’s Cheeriodicals gift boxes were designed to deliver a much-needed dose of cheer to hospitalized children. Each Cheeriodical contains an assortment of age-appropriate activity books, crafts, puzzles, and games, all carefully arranged within a keepsake gift box.
The Veterans’ Cheeriodicals duffle bags were designed to lift the spirits of Veterans who have selflessly served our country. These distinctive green and black duffle bags are filled with patriotic comfort and care items, including a plush blanket, tumbler, essential toiletries, and a copy of U.S. Veterans Magazine.
“At Diversified Maintenance, we understand that true success goes beyond business achievements. Our recent collaboration with Cheeriodicals exemplifies our commitment to making a difference where it matters most – in the lives of children and Veterans facing health challenges,” said Tyler Bruce, Chief People Officer at Diversified Maintenance. He added, “Each package is not just a collection of items; it is a symbol of our commitment to uplifting spirits, spreading joy, making a positive impact on the lives of others, and building a better, caring community.”
“We were thrilled to collaborate with the team from Diversified Maintenance in assembling our signature cheer-up care packages for local distribution in Birmingham," expressed Mary Martha Parisher, Founder and COO of Cheeriodicals. "While our company operates across various markets nationwide, there's a special joy in spreading smiles right here in our corporate backyard, particularly to patients at Children’s of Alabama and the Birmingham VA Health Care System. Diversified Maintenance's commitment to positively impacting both hospitalized children and Veterans through the same team-building event marks a milestone in our history here in Birmingham.”
“We are especially thankful to Cheeriodicals and Diversified Maintenance for thinking about our patients,” said Crawford Daniel, Community Development Coordinator at Children’s of Alabama. “Partnerships like this brighten the day for our patients and their families. Thank you all so much for delivering happiness.” Ladi Kukoyi, Executive Director/CEO of the Birmingham VA Health Care System, expressed deep appreciation for Cheeriodicals' visits and their ongoing partnership, including this year's collaboration with Diversified Maintenance. “The combined efforts of the VA, Cheeriodicals, and Diversified Maintenance bring joy to our Veterans' faces when they visit our medical center,” Kukoyi noted. “We're deeply thankful for the support from Cheeriodicals and their partners, who generously contribute to our Veterans."
After the Diversified Maintenance team packed and completed all the Cheeriodicals boxes and duffle bags, the local Two Men and a Truck Birmingham team loaded all the Cheeriodicals and delivered them, free of charge to the hospitals, as part of their own corporate social responsibility program. Representatives from Diversified Maintenance personally delivered the care packages to both Children’s of Alabama and the Birmingham VA Health Care System. At the Birmingham VA, they not only delivered the donation of Cheeriodicals, but also took the time to personally hand-deliver the duffle bags to many of the Veterans. Beyond simply delivering the gift bags, the team seized the opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Veterans for their invaluable service and sacrifice.
