This week, Brown Books Kids releases a timely children’s picture book. Mommy, Will You Rub My Feet? by debut author Jessica Jones with illustrations by Susana Ramírez Solís aims to help parents and children learn to identify growing pains. Jones’ cozy bedtime read is not only educational, but paired with Solís’ brilliantly muted color palette, it provides a comforting solace to soothe children to sleep.
Jones was inspired by a similar experience with her son, and the “aha” moment when he came to her one night describing aches and pains that she too had known all too well as a child. In her delightful new picture book, a young boy (Taj) goes through his nightly routine: brushing his teeth, putting on his dinosaur pjs, reading a bedtime story, and getting tucked into bed when suddenly he can’t sleep. Taj tosses and turns and watches his clock, but nothing works. Finally, he goes to his mother to figure out what’s wrong. Together, they discover that Taj is experiencing growing pains—which then leads to the question every mother has heard before and can’t help but chuckle at: “Mommy, will you rub my feet?”
AUTHOR BIO: Having coined "the child that couldn't sit still," Jessica Jones has been on the move ever since she was young. From making mud pies in the dirt, creating fashion shows at home with her two sisters, dancing the night away in the basement to "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," and playing every sport imaginable, Jones has always been ready for an adventure. She is a former Division I student athlete, having played indoor volleyball for Ohio University and Florida International University while earning her degree in education. Years later, she played professional beach volleyball for several different tours in the US. Nowadays, Jones is still on the move and pursuing her graduate degree at St. Edward's University to become a licensed professional counselor. She loves to play with her two children and two dogs, travel with her partner, and check out bookstores all over the country. Mommy Will You Rub My Feet? will be Jones’ debut children’s picture book.
