“We are excited to have Dr. Whitworth at the helm of The Science Teacher. Her deep understanding of the evolving landscape of science education will help guide the journal’s mission to provide high-quality, relevant content for today’s educators,” said Cathy Iammartino, Chief of Publications and Digital Products at NSTA. “I am confident that under her editorial leadership the journal will continue to inspire innovation in the classroom and support high school teachers in delivering engaging and effective science instruction.”

Whitworth, an associate professor of science education at Clemson University, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. With leadership positions across multiple institutions, including serving as science department chair at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and holding key roles at Northern Arizona University, the University of Mississippi, and Clemson University, she has a distinguished background in science education. Whitworth has also been actively involved in national organizations, including the Association of Science Teacher Educators and the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST). With nine years of high school teaching and a decade as a teacher educator, she is an exciting addition to the journal.

"I am thrilled to take on the role of Field Editor at The Science Teacher and contribute to such an impactful publication," said Whitworth. "This is an exciting opportunity to amplify voices in the science education community and highlight new approaches that engage students while enriching their learning experience."

Whitworth will play a pivotal role in shaping the journal's content by identifying key topics relevant to high school science education, soliciting contributions from a diverse range of educators, and overseeing the manuscript review process. Her responsibilities include ensuring that articles reflect sound judgment, exemplary safety practices, scientific accuracy, practical classroom application, and alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards.

Published six times annually, The Science Teacher is a peer-reviewed practitioner journal for secondary level and high school science teachers, university faculty involved in teacher preparation, and science education leaders at the state and district levels. The Science Teacher showcases innovative, research-based classroom activities and strategies aligned with A Framework for K–12 Science Education, as well as articles on key topics like teaching strategies, social justice, and equity.
