International Arbitration Standout Jesse Sherrett Joins Sterlington

Sterlington announced today that Jesse Sherrett, a highly regarded international arbitration lawyer who has represented clients in some of the largest commercial disputes heard before international arbitration tribunals over the last decade, has joined the firm as a partner. Sherrett is the sixth major lateral hire for Sterlington in the last five months.

“Jesse is a superior talent who has handled multi-venue, cross-border commercial disputes on the largest scale,” said Christopher S. Harrison, managing partner of Sterlington. “He offers a rare level of strategic insight and legal knowledge in navigating such multi-faceted conflicts.”

Before joining Sterlington, Sherrett was a partner at A&O Shearman (and its predecessor, Shearman & Sterling), where he made his reputation as an international disputes lawyer capable of handling commercial matters featuring immense financial stakes, covering multiple jurisdictions, and often involving court proceedings ancillary to arbitrations. His work there included two multi-billion-dollar arbitrations over the construction of a nuclear power plant in Finland and a large medical center in the Middle East in two of the largest construction cases ever administered by the International Chamber of Commerce. Sherrett also handled an insurance dispute stemming from a fire at a Russian power plant that involved an ICC arbitration as well as court proceedings in the U.S., U.K., and Russia, and led to a seminal decision from the UK Supreme Court on how to determine the law governing arbitration agreements under English law.

In addition to his frequent work on disputes arising from major construction projects, M&A deals, and other transactions, Sherrett regularly handles sovereign immunity issues for governments particularly in connection with arbitration award and foreign judgment enforcement actions in the U.S. Praised in Global Arbitration Review for his “prodigious mastery of massive files,” he has been named a 2025 Arbitration Future Leader by Lexology.

“Sterlington is uniquely attractive. It allows me to offer my clients greater partner attention, fewer conflicts risk, and greater opportunity to align our incentives with clients’ interests through alternative fee arrangements,” said Sherrett. “Meanwhile, Sterlington has assembled talent that is simply on a different level than that of other next-generation law firms.”

Sherrett joins a series of high-profile lateral partners who have joined Sterlington in the last five months. They include Robert Ray, the former federal prosecutor who succeeded Kenneth Starr as independent counsel; Jonathan Sherman, a decorated litigator who spent much of his career at Boies Schiller Flexner; Courtney Rockett, another longtime Boies Schiller litigator; and Paul Jebely, the top private aviation attorney to ultra-high-net-worth individuals.

Before joining Shearman & Sterling, Sherrett trained as an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York. He received a B.A. from the University of Toronto, an M.A. from King’s College London, and his J.D. from York University, Osgoode Hall Law School.
