5 Houston-area Food Trucks Serving Incredibly Unique and Healthy Foods
Houston non-profit, A Bite of Hope, promotes health through healthy eating and works with food businesses to ensure there are plenty of sources of healthy, fresh foods, especially in underserved areas of Houston.
These are five Houston-area food trucks that serve truly unique and healthy foods. They are Food Business Partners of A Bite of Hope — a Houston non-profit that promotes and supports food businesses that offer fresh, healthy food options to communities in Houston.

Food trucks are as popular as ever these days and Houston has a wonderfully diverse food truck scene. All over the Houston Metro area, you can find food trucks serving anything from quick lunches to traditional comfort food to global delicacies.

As part of its mission to demonstrate the power of food over health, the Houston-based non-profit, A Bite of Hope, works with and supports Houston-area food businesses that offer healthy, fresh food options. When Joseph Brozovich, the program’s Culinary Program Coordinator and Lead Instructor, was asked about food trucks, five businesses came to his mind first, “We have many food truck businesses in our program. Some that are particularly interesting are Lupita’s Roasted Corn, Churrasco Food Truck, Mr. Sweet Delicatesse, and Crazy Bites – who recently had their grand opening. Also, De Mi Fogon, who makes traditional Colombian food, is about to open their food truck. Each of them offers unique and robust flavors that reflect their cultural backgrounds and use the kinds of fresh, natural ingredients we want to see our Food Business Partners offering to their communities.”

Consistent with Chef Joseph’s comments, each of these food trucks is unique and offers fresh and flavorful food choices. Lupita’s Roasted Corn, located at the corner of Beechnut and Corporate Drive in the Valero parking lot, offers made-on-the spot tacos, gorditas, tortas, quesadillas, tamales, and other traditional Mexican foods. Lupita’s specialties include roasted corn in a cup, strawberries with whipped cream (fresas con crema), and mangonadas. According to our own taste test – and supported by her reviews – Lupita’s roasted corn in the cup is as good as it gets. You can follow Lupita’s here on Facebook

Churrasco To Go’s delicious options are inspired by traditional Brazilian BBQ. Their sandwiches and Churrasco bowls are favorites of their followers. Churrasco uses high-quality meats and fresh, locally sourced produce for their meals, and everything is cooked by “specially trained Brazilian natives” for authentic flavor with a unique style. Churrasco caters for events as well. They have several trucks so follow them on Facebook to see where they are today.

Chef Aryelis Ortiz of Mr. Sweet Delicatessen hails from Venezuela and applies her two decades of delicatessen experience to her own creations and baking. The Mr. Sweet food truck is located in Spring at the Food Truck Plaza at 26400 Gosling Rd, Spring, TX 77389. Look for the big water tower that says “Northhampton.” Mr. Sweet serves meals as well as pastries and cakes such as tres leches, carrot cake, milhojas, flan, pavlova, and marble cake. Custom cake flavors and designs are also available. It’s a fantastic and popular lunch place in the Spring and The Woodlands area. They also offer catering. Follow them here on Facebook.

On the west side of town is Crazy Bites, a great new food truck run by the husband and wife team, Mauricio and Diana Velasquez. Passionate about food and sharing the food experience, their motto is “It’s our passion. It’s our love. It’s our secret.” Mauricio grew up cooking and when the pandemic led to layoffs for both of them, they decided to go for the dream they had been considering for years. Empanadas are a popular item for them and they offer several unique flavors including Hawaiian, buffalo chicken, spinach & ricotta, and more. They also serve tacos, various sandwich options, and several other innovative and flavorful food options. Follow Crazy Bites on Facebook for their latest creations and specials.

Finally, De Mi Fogon, a Houston business that makes “Colombian Delights” and sells primarily at local farmers’ markets, is on the cusp of unveiling their new food truck. They make fantastic, traditional Colombian food, such as empanadas and arepas, and the food truck will allow them to bring their traditional Colombian foods to more Houstonians than ever before. You can follow De Mi Fogon on Facebook

Give one or more of these small food truck businesses a try. Each has its own backstory of passion, struggles, and courage that brought them to where they are today – and they each contribute to the variety and culture that makes the Houston food truck scene so fantastic and varied.
