AAPI Executive, Kevin Iwamoto, GLP, GTP to Retire from Bizly Inc.

Bizly Inc. announced the retirement of visionary AAPI executive Kevin Iwamoto today. Iwamoto will officially transition into a senior advisor consultancy role after March 31, 2023.

Iwamoto joined Bizly in 2019 as Chief Strategy Officer, where he helped the company weather unprecedented changes in the meetings and events space. Currently Bizly’s Chief Customer Officer and Head of Enterprise, Iwamoto leads the enterprise sales and customer success teams.

Before Bizly

Prior to joining Bizly, Iwamoto was Vice President of Industry Strategy in the events tech industry for Lanyon, Active Network and StarCite. Prior to his venture into technology, he was an award-winning high profile global corporate travel buyer at Hewlett-Packard (HP), Disney Worldwide Services and one of the first group of National Corporate Sales Managers for Northwest Airlines.

At HP, Iwamoto reinvented business travel solutions, prototyping the first online car rental auction and negotiated the first enterprise airline alliance agreement with the Star Alliance. His early insight and research on Duty of Care and GDPR educated and changed the events industry.

In 2001, during his tenure at the National Business Travel Association (NBTA)---now the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA)---Iwamoto served as President and CEO, the first and only Asian American to hold the position and was celebrated and awarded for his role in stabilizing the world’s business travel industry after the tragic events of September 11.

Iwamoto’s appointment of a task force and new NBTA Meetings committee led to the creation of Strategic Meetings Management (SMM), now considered the global corporate standard and one of his most enduring legacies. In 2009, GBTA awarded him with its highest honor and rare designation as Industry Icon.

Throughout his career he has personally funded industry scholarships including a perpetual scholarship for the Travel Industry Management School at the University of Hawaii.

Iwamoto's retirement celebrates 35 years of advocacy for the business travel and events industries. He exits the corporate world a globally respected humanitarian, philanthropist, author, spokesperson, and DEI advocate, a true innovator and trailblazer in business travel, meetings and events.
