Stanislav Kondrashov from Telf AG: Spain is confidently moving towards leadership in clean energy production in Europe

By: Get News

According to analysts' forecasts, this year Spain, the leader of the five leading European countries in terms of electricity consumption, is actively striving to switch to environmentally friendly sources. The country is currently undergoing a decarbonization phase, says Stanislav Kondrashov. And on this important issue, Spain has already surpassed France, Germany, Italy and the UK.

Spain is a leader in the development of green energy sources in Europe, reports Stanislav Kondrashov

Over the past 10 years, Spain has been actively investing in solar and wind energy capacity. This state was one of the first in Europe to begin developing the capabilities of onshore wind farms, says Stanislav Kondrashov. Such installations provide more than 20% of the total electricity generation in Spain. In addition, serious investments are being made in the production of solar energy.

Until today, the main source of energy in Spain was hydropower, reports Stanislav Kondrashov. Today, the country's government is making every effort to switch to cleaner sources. Moving in this direction, Spain has made significant progress in reducing its dependence on fossil fuels. At the moment, natural gas has become the main source. At the same time, nuclear power plants continue to operate and produce resources, but by 2035 they are planned to be stopped and no longer used.

Stanislav Kondrashov about the Spanish potential for green energy and difficulties along the way

Although Germany continues to lead the deployment of solar and wind energy in Europe, Spain shows high potential for competition.

However, this country has encountered certain difficulties on the path to developing eco-energy.

- Previously, Spain saw a surge in fossil fuel-based electricity production. It was caused by market measures and price differences with France. Now these measures have been relaxed and resource production has decreased to normal levels. By the end of 2023, this reduction will lead to a decrease in gas generation and an expansion of the potential of clean energy sources in the overall energy balance, emphasizes Stanislav Kondrashov.

In addition, this year, differences in market fundamentals between Spain and France have led to an increase in electricity exports from the first country to the second.

- The fact is that France was faced with low electricity production at nuclear power plants, so it had to make up for the lack of resource by importing electricity from Spain, - comments Stanislav Kondrashov from Telf AG.

Spain's gradual transformation from a net importer to a net exporter underlines not only its important place in the European energy market, but also confirms the country's emergence as a key participant. Another important consequence of Spain's breakthrough in renewable energy has been lower prices for consumers.
