Certolab Haciendas Commemorates World Diabetes Day

Certolab commemorates World Diabetes Day on November 14th. It's an opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of diabetes on people's health. The laboratory emphasizes the importance of routine check-ups for the care and prevention of diseases.

Certolab Medical Laboratory Haciendas in Cuautitlan Izcalli recognizes November 14, International Diabetes Day, and announces its comprehensive packages of tests -- known as "Check Ups" -- for online ordering to assert its role in the global battle against this disease.

Historical records of symptoms that are today identified as diabetes date back to ancient times, as this disease has been observed and described in various cultures over the centuries. However, the term "diabetes" was first used around the year 200 A.D. by the Greek physician Aretaeus of Cappadocia.

For centuries, this disease was poorly understood and its treatment was very limited. People with type 1 diabetes, which is a form of the disease characterized by a lack of insulin production, generally died shortly after being diagnosed. It was not until the late 19th and early 20th centuries that research in this area gained significance.

In 1889, scientists Oskar Minkowski and Joseph Von Mering were among the first experimental observers of the development of symptoms very similar to diabetes in dogs from which they had removed the pancreas. Later, in 1921, surgeon Frederick Banting, along with his graduate student Charles Best, were the researchers who discovered that insulin produced in the pancreas is the element that acts as a regulator of blood sugar levels. In 1922, with the collaboration of James Colip, they managed to isolate it, allowing the development of effective treatments for controlling the disease and significantly improving the prognosis for people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Sir Frederick Banting was a Canadian physician and scientist, born on November 14, 1891, in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. His contributions to the discovery of insulin and the treatment of diabetes earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1923. For this reason, in 1991, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) established November 14 as World Diabetes Day in honor of Dr. Banting's birthday, with the aim of raising awareness about this disease, its causes, symptoms, treatment, and complications. It also seeks to advocate for the importance of early detection and access to appropriate treatments for people with diabetes.

The discovery of insulin was a crucial milestone in the treatment of diabetes. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels and is essential for the metabolism of carbohydrates.

The increase in diabetes cases in recent years is due to a combination of factors, and while these may vary by region of the world, the most common known risk factors include adopting more sedentary lifestyles and diets high in calories, fats, and sugars, as well as the availability of processed foods, aging populations, genetics and ethnic predisposition, lack of access to healthy foods, and awareness of the importance of consuming a healthy diet, chronic stress, and environmental pollution.

It is important to address these factors through prevention strategies, which include promoting healthy lifestyles, education about diet and exercise, and access to medical care for early diagnosis and treatment. Constant monitoring of blood glucose levels, through laboratory studies of prestigious and quality assured like Certolab Medical Laboratory, is crucial in prevention when there is the presence of important risk factors, and eventually will be indispensable during the treatment of the disease once diagnosed.

Tests can be ordered online from Certolab Haciendas at certolab.com.
