Museum Artifact Storage Solutions For Protection & Visibility: Report Released

Spacesaver (800-255-8170) has issued a new report covering a recent museum storage project it designed and installed to help protect rare musical artifacts while keeping them visible to visitors.

The project highlighted in Spacesaver's recent report was carried out in collaboration with The Church Studio, a music history museum in Tulsa, OK. The museum brought Spacesaver's design team on board to help fulfill its mission of preserving delicate artifacts from Tulsa's unique musical history while making them accessible to the local community and visiting music enthusiasts.

With artifacts of many different shapes and sizes, The Church Studio and Spacesaver decided to install a combination of the company's 424 Series Flat File Cabinets and 920 Series Preservation Cabinets. Made from durable, fully-welded steel, both of these storage units protect against fire, water damage, and theft.

Spacesaver's preservation cabinets were chosen for their versatility, as they have varied depth options and can continually be reconfigured according to changing storage needs. The tempered UV-protected glass doors protect artifacts from light exposure while making them easily visible to museum guests. Spacesaver offers optional adjustable vents with replaceable filters to maintain optimum air quality within the preservation cabinets.

The Church Studio also opted for the company's archival flat file cabinets, which feature a lockable glass top, allowing artifacts to be viewed without being touched, which could lead to wear and tear. The flat file cabinets at The Church Studio stored records, record sleeves, concert posters, and other pieces of memorabilia from Tulsa's iconic music scene. These archival flat file cabinets were also fitted with casters so that museum staff could easily move them as needed.
