Nelson Based Enriched Plumbing Confirms Demand In NZ For Qualified Plumbers

In an interview with Akatu Media, Enriched Plumbing & Gas confirmed that qualified plumbers are in just the same demand in Nelson and the Tasman District, as is the case in other parts of New Zealand.

Enriched Plumbing & Gas Ltd is a trusted Nelson based provider of all plumbing related services to the Tasman District. The company offers a wide range of plumbing solutions including blocked drain clearing, emergency plumbing services, gas installation hot water cylinder replacement, burst water pipe repairs, toilet & cistern repairs as well as bathroom, kitchen renovations and solar installations.

Director of Enriched Plumbing & Gas Ltd, Mr Richard Naughton when commenting to Akatu Media on the rising demand across New Zealand for qualified plumbers said: “The training of apprentices in recent years to replace those who have left the industry, combined with a strong growth in new building work post the covid lockdown period, has simply seen the number of plumbers not keeping up with demand across the country and industry pay rates have risen accordingly.”

On the New Zealand Government website it is confirm that although over 8,000 people work as plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers in New Zealand, there are not enough to meet demand. As a result, plumber, drainlayer and roof plumber appear on Immigration New Zealand's construction and infrastructure skill shortage list. This means the Government is actively encouraging skilled plumbers and drainlayers from overseas to work in New Zealand. They confirm that the hourly rate plumbers earn in New Zealand ranges as follows:

+ Apprentice/trainee plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers usually start on the training or adult minimum wage and can earn up to $39 an hour as they gain skills and unit standards.

+ Newly licensed plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers usually earn $35 to $42 an hour.

+ Licensed and experienced plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers can earn between $45 and $53 an hour.

Those running their own business may earn more than this, but their income depends on the success of their business. People specialising as drainlayers usually earn a little less than plumbers and gasfitters.

As well as their wages, plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers may get other benefits such as tool allowances, vehicle and cell phone use and health insurance.
