Citizens Commission on Human Rights South Africa Sheds Light on Psychiatric Abuse in Diepsloot

This weekend, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights South Africa held a grand opening for the community of Diepsloot of a travelling exhibit, which aimed at exposing human rights abuse in the field of psychiatry.

This weekend, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights South Africa held a grand opening for the community of Diepsloot of a travelling exhibit, which aimed at exposing human rights abuse in the field of psychiatry.

The Commission, established since 1967 by late psychiatrist Thomas Szasz, travels from town to town around the world to make people aware that the field of psychiatry is troubled. The exhibit covers abuses in the way kids are drugged in schools, elderlies electroshocked, people held against their will and so much more.

With many learning of the role that psychiatry had in the problematic history of racism and eugenics, they were shocked to learn that psychiatry was deeply involved in the eugenics movement, which aimed to "improve" the human race through selective breeding and sterilization. psychiatrists supported and implemented eugenics policies, targeting marginalized groups, including people of color, immigrants, and individuals with mental illnesses. They also learned that psychiatrists historically classified people into racial categories, perpetuating harmful stereotypes and reinforcing white supremacy.

The successfully held exhibit in Diepsloot is one of many upcoming exhibits, raised awareness about the dangers of psychiatric abuse, particularly the drugging of children without proper diagnosis. The event drew hundreds of concerned citizens, including ward councilors, police officials, pastors, and community leaders, who pledged their support to CCHR's efforts to address this critical issue. Many attendees shared their own experiences of abuse in the mental health field and expressed relief that CCHR is taking action to help.

Opening on Saturday and staying in Diepsloot for over a week, hundreds flooded the library to catch wind of the event including royal houses, the President of the Diepsloot area community association, businessmen, community members from several township areas such as, Alexandra, Braamfisher, Diepsloot, Kagiso, Meadowlands, Soweto, Tembisa, Vaal and Vanderbijl Park.

The exhibit highlighted the alarming trend of children being prescribed mind-altering psychotropic drugs without a thorough diagnosis, and the devastating consequences that follow. CCHR's campaign aims to educate parents, caregivers, and mental health professionals about the risks associated with these drugs and the need for alternative, non-invasive treatments. A few keynote speakers took to the stage to pledge their support in the fight against children abuse in the hands of ‘mental health experts’ including

Colonel Sibisi from the South African Police Service who is the Commanding officer for the Diepsloot Police Station, Chief Superintendent (Fortuin from the Johannesburg Metro Police and Mr. Matsimemtsa Nkoana form Tembisa who is a well-known local business man.

"We are thrilled by the overwhelming response from the community," said Maurithius Meiring, President of CCHR South Africa. "It's clear that people are concerned about the welfare of their children and are eager for change. We will continue to fight for the rights of individuals and children, and to expose the abuses in the mental health industry."

L. Ron Hubbard, who was very ahead of his time in exposing these abuses in the psychiatric industry. CCHR South Africa is a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating and exposing human rights violations in the mental health field.
