SETC Credit 2024 Application Assistance For Freelancers & Gig Workers Announced

Gig Worker Solutions is inviting self-employed individuals to apply for the SETC tax credit as per a recent announcement.

The company is spreading the word to let gig workers, freelancers, and those who are otherwise self-employed know that the pandemic-era tax credit is still available. Those eligible for relief may be able to drastically reduce their tax liability to account for disruptions directly caused by Covid or by pandemic-era restrictions.

The SETC, or Self Employed Tax Credit, program was established as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, and was intended to provide the same relief that registered business owners enjoyed through PPP loan forgiveness and other similar programs to self-employed individuals and freelancers.

In addition to gig workers, eligible individuals may include the owners of single-member and sole proprietor LLCs, 1099 contract workers, and those engaged in limited partnerships. These businesses likely did not qualify for relief through other programs - even those tailored specifically to small businesses - but may qualify for the SETC in 2024.

To be eligible for relief, an individual must have experienced and have documentation of a qualified Covid-related disruption while self-employed in 2021 or earlier. This could include supply chain disruptions, business closures due to pandemic-related factors, or time lost due to duties as a caregiver or to personal health challenges.

Those who believe they may qualify can apply now with the assistance of the Gig Worker Solutions team, a qualified accounting agency specializing in securing this relief for their clients. They have already secured millions of dollars in SETC relief as of 2024, and are committed to ensuring that as many qualified individuals as possible get the money that is owed to them.

Gig Worker Solutions emphasizes in their announcement that the money available through the SETC program has already been designated, but will no longer be available to claim as of 2025. They urge all freelancers, gig workers, and other self-employed individuals to pursue a claim as soon as possible to ensure the paperwork is processed in time.

One client stated, “I didn’t even know about the SETC program until a friend sent me a link and I was blown away by how simple and easy it was to not only claim my tax credit, but the support and service through the process was much better than I could’ve imagined. I didn’t know anything about the program and so they did a great job educating me and making me feel comfortable and knowledgeable throughout the process. I received over $25,000 back from the IRS.”
