TeamCME Enters Partnership with iSleep to Streamline Sleep Apnea Testing for Commercial Drivers

Oregon-based company partners with a leading sleep apnea service provider to make sleep apnea testing and treatment more affordable and accessible for commercial drivers completing their DOT physical.

TeamCME connects commercial drivers and Department of Transportation (DOT) medical examiners nationwide with up-to-date information and resources to help them ensure compliance with DOT requirements and maintain their certification status. Sleep apnea, among other conditions, can affect a driver’s safety on the road, making it a growing concern. By partnering with iSleep, TeamCME makes DOT-compliant sleep apnea tests convenient for DOT medical examiners to order and easy for drivers to complete.

Well-versed in the requirements drivers must meet to maintain their certification status, TeamCME provides a host of online resources for both drivers and DOT-certified medical examiners. They offer training courses to prepare medical professionals for certification and recertification exams and training for support staff and lab technicians performing DOT alcohol and drug testing. Their online database of certified examiners allows drivers to connect quickly and easily with a certified medical examiner at a nearby facility.

“For commercial drivers, keeping up to date on their physical exams requires they stay on top of all health conditions that could affect their driving,” stated Dr. Jeffrey Carlson, Co-CEO and Chief Medical Officer for TeamCME. “Sleep apnea disturbs a driver’s ability to get the restorative sleep they need and remain alert on the job. Getting tested and diagnosed, however, can mean multiple appointments and a night in a sleep lab, which means time off the job. Our partnership with iSleep will make the testing and diagnosis process easier.”

One of the largest providers of sleep apnea services, iSleep offers a low-cost at-home (or in the cab) alternative to a traditional sleep lab test. If they suspect sleep apnea, certified medical examiners can refer drivers for sleep apnea testing by filling out a form on TeamCME’s website. However, drivers do not need a prescription to take an iSleep test. iSleep can provide a testing order. iSleep’s home testing kits are FDA-cleared and meet DOT testing requirements, and drivers may receive their results in as little as 24-48 hours after completing the test.

“Partnering directly with iSleep is going to make it much easier for providers first to diagnose and then manage sleep apnea symptoms for commercial drivers by removing some of the barriers,” remarked Carlson. “We can now connect drivers directly with the only resource they need to complete their testing and treatment if needed. Drivers can pay for their iSleep testing using their FSA or HSA account or finance it if needed.”

To help medical examiners recertify in 2023, TeamCME offers certified medical examiner courses throughout the year. To learn more about sleep apnea testing through iSleep and TeamCME or to register for a training course, call 541-276-6032 or visit www.TeamCME.com.
