Two women have filed the first civil lawsuits accusing Scrubs and Californication writer-producer Eric Weinberg of sexually assaulting them in 2019. The women, called A.B. and C.D. in the lawsuits to protect their privacy, each accuse Weinberg of forcing them to perform sexual acts against their will and fearing for their safety. In recent months, several women have publicly described being assaulted by Weinberg, and the Hollywood Reporter described Weinberg’s “alleged pattern of sexual assault with some claims dating back decades.” Sexual assault attorneys at Liberty Law and Gibbs Law Group are reviewing potential legal claims on behalf of additional women who were assaulted by Eric Weinberg.
According to the civil lawsuits, Weinberg was calculating in gaining victims’ trust, often mentioning his Hollywood credentials or his kids to make women comfortable meeting him at his home, but in the privacy of his home he would turn angry or violent. The women’s lawsuits charge Weinberg with sexual assault, sexual battery, and gender violence, among other legal claims.
According to A.B.’s lawsuit, after initially meeting Weinberg on a dating app and finding him to be courteous and respectful, she accepted his invitation to have a glass of wine at his home, where he went on to expose himself and then pinned her down to forcibly assault her during their first encounter. C.D.’s lawsuit accuses Weinberg of first approaching her and introducing himself as an executive producer of Scrubs, and then encouraging her to meet under the guise of a photo shoot before forcibly assaulting her in his home, including in his daughter’s bedroom. Together, their stories resemble dozens of others who’ve accused Weinberg of forced sex and violence, according to several media reports.
“Eric Weinberg is a calculated, serial predator who targeted these women, and caused them immense trauma, mental anguish and physical harm,” says Micha Star Liberty, lead attorney representing the women. “Weinberg must be held accountable to these women for his horrifying actions.”
Weinberg is currently in police custody facing 18 felony counts related to sexual crimes. According to news reports, many women have described predatory encounters with Weinberg as far back as 2000. In denying him bail, Judge Victoria B. Wilson said Weinberg “has engaged in a pattern of violence for over six years” and is “predatory.”
