Silkinc’s ‘Dialogue of Two Rivers’ Silk Scarf Marks China-France Cultural Exchange

By: Get News

On the afternoon of April 18, 2024, the launching ceremony for the first season of 'Running Stream: Humanistic Dialogue in Global Cities from Shanghai' was held at the Palais de Brongnières on the banks of the River Seine. Ms. Yang Peng, the founder of Silkinc, a rising Chinese brand specializing in silk craftsmanship and innovation, was invited to attend the event and participate in the round-table forum.

The event was initiated by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Press Office, organized by the Shanghai Newspaper Group and the Shanghai Association for Cultural Exchange with Foreign Countries, and supported by the Shanghai Jing'an District People's Government, the Shanghai Leading Group Office of 'One River, One Stream,' the Shanghai Office of Local Records, and the Shanghai Federation of Social Science Circles. It was undertaken by the Suhuiwan Group and Pengyuan News, aiming to promote dialogue between cities around the world. The event was organized by Suhewan Group and PengPing News, aiming to promote diversified dialogue and cooperation among global cities.

During the gift-giving session, Mr. Ding Baobao, Chairman and Party Secretary of the Shanghai Jing'an District Political Consultative Conference, presented Pierre-Yves Guice, representative of Paris La Défense Global Business District, with a 'Dialogue between Two Rivers' themed silk scarf from the brand Silkinc.

"Dialogue of Two Rivers" Theme Scarf

For the Running Stream theme, Silkinc crafted a silk scarf titled 'Dialogue of Two Rivers,' where the river imagery reflects the purity and brightness of silk, imbuing the gift with profound symbolism. Marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, the scarf showcases the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce and the Tin Hau Palace in Suhe Bay, juxtaposed with the iconic Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe along the Seine River. Each landmark is delineated in vibrant hues, emblematic of the enduring friendship between these two cities, their dynamic growth, and the ongoing progression of human civilization.

Ms. Yang Peng, the Founder of Silkinc, was invited to participate in the roundtable forum themed 'Running Stream: A Borderless City for the Future.' During the event, Ms. Yang Peng shared her insights on the topic of 'Sustainable Innovation of Traditional Craftsmanship and Non-Genetic Heritage Towards the International Stage.' Her discussion primarily focused on achieving product innovation through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, and propelling China's silk industry onto the global stage in the modern era. The central theme of her presentation was 'Going International.' She emphasized, 'To enhance the internationalization of the silk brand, besides expanding into global sales markets, we must also embrace the concept of a 'community of human destiny,' advocating for environmental and ecological care, and embedding sustainable development into the essence of Silkinc's brand identity. We must explore the multifaceted sustainable development of mulberry silk.' Ms. Peng highlighted the environmentally-friendly attributes of mulberry silk, positioning it as an ideal conduit for Chinese brands to pioneer effective strategies for sustainable development

Ms. Yang Peng, Founder of Silkinc

Founder Ms. Yang Peng also delved into the historical connection between silk, Shanghai, and Suhewan. A century ago, travelers journeyed along the Suzhou River from Suhewan, a pivotal center in Shanghai, to Suzhou, renowned as the birthplace of silk production. Along the riverbanks, artisans from diverse backgrounds crafted exquisite silk garments and honed intricate weaving techniques. Simultaneously, finished silk products traversed the route from the Suzhou River to Shanghai, serving as a gateway to global markets. Today, the fifth generation of our century-old brand, Embroidery Silk, continues the legacy of inheritance and innovation, poised to venture onto the international stage from Shanghai—a city brimming with cultural and artistic innovation.

Roundtable Forum on "Running Stream: A Borderless City for the Future"

Yang Peng, the founder of Silkinc, remarked, "Throughout my academic pursuits—from undergraduate to doctoral studies at Cambridge—I immersed myself in the realms of land economics. While economics and law were my primary focus, sustainable development also held significant importance. It's gratifying to see sustainable development emerging as a new avenue and direction for Chinese silk. This infusion of new perspectives not only enriches Chinese silk but also enhances its ability to convey the essence of Chinese culture on a global scale.
